CovertIncest.org was launched in 2004 to promote awareness about covert incest, due to
the lack of reliable information on the Internet. Although many websites about sexual
abuse exist, they mainly focus on rape and other kinds of overt sexual abuse. Of the sites
that do mention covert incest, some of them are critical of it, comparing it to rebirthing and
false memory syndrome. Such websites are counterproductive to the aims of eliminating
covert incest from society and instead foster the denial that has existed in some families
for generations.
