Treatment

Several treatment options are available for survivors of covert incest. Self-help books can be a valuable resource for healing oneself from the devastating effects of covert incest. Both Dr. Kenneth Adams and Dr. Patricia Love have written self-help books that deal with this important subject. It is also necessary to seek out support from others who have been through similar experiences. Many people have benefited from attending twelve-step recovery groups as well as non-twelve step recovery groups such as SOS. Naturally, support is available online for those who cannot or do not want to meet in person. Lastly, therapy is a viable option for those who continue to struggle with covert incest. Individual, couples and/or family therapy should be considered if and when professional help is needed.
